Trip Report: Yosemite Falls Wall (Via Aqua)

Via Aqua – Yosemite Falls Wall

FA Dave Rearick, Herb Swedlund, and Glen Denny, 4/60

FFA Dick McCracken and Steve Roper, 1960

On a beautiful day in April we decided on an alpine adventure here in Yosemite Valley.  With the Yosemite Falls raging we finished our coffee and began the nice walk up the Yosemite Falls trail.

The route begins with an airy walk across on an exposed third class ledge system for hundreds of feet.  The climbing begins with some enjoyable, exposed, and damp 5.7 corners.  As the corner finishes there is an extremely airy section with the falls raging in the background, Sooo Bigwall!

After a beautiful pick- nick ledge there is the requisite 1960’s squeeze chimney finish to an amazing top-out about 50 feet from the top of the falls, right at the guard rails.  Another great day in the park.

This is a great alternative to the now closed for falcons Lost Arrow Spire adventures.
