Half Dome Update 8/19/15

Route Conditions Report

as of 8/19/15

Half Dome

Regular Northwest Face

Yosemite Climbing Management has not returned to the RNWF since their initial survey on 7/7/15. Refer to this page for that update. In response to many questions, we have updated our notice below:

Rock fall on Pitch 11 and 12 of the Regular Northwest Face has significantly altered the route.  It is recommended that climbers/visitors take extra caution along the base of Half Dome and use extreme caution if attempting to climb the Regular route.   Loose rock exists and its stability is unknown.

Climbers attempting the route should still be climbing with a first ascent mentality.   There have been no confirmed reports of a successful ascent of the route in its entirety since the recent rock fall event.

Current information indicates that the anchor at the top of pitch 11 has been moved and the access to the 11c corner is via a new bolt ladder and pendulum.  It is unclear whether the route is climbable to the top of pitch 12 after the 11c corner.  Retreating from Pitch 12 and the Robbins Traverse is potentially complicated and time consuming.

If you have information on route conditions or this recent rock fall event, call the climbing management office at 209-372-0360

Thanks and be safe,

Yosemite Climbing Management
