August 14 Fire Update
The moderately heavy smoke the park has been experiencing is smoke drift from 2 large fires burning to the south of Yosemite. One is the Rough Fire, which has consumed approximately 12,000 acres. The other fire is the Cabin Fire, at over 6,000 acres.
Upper Falls: As of 6:00 PM last night (8/13/15), all trail closures associated with this fire have been lifted. The Upper Fire is 3.85 acres, and is in mop up phase.
August 12 Fire Update
As of last night 75% of the “Upper” fire was contained. An estimated 4 acres have burned. Suppression efforts will continue through the next few days until this fire is out, including helicopter operations.
All trails to Yosemite Falls are temporarily closed from the Valley and from various trial heads above Yosemite Creek. There are large diameter logs directly on the trail that continue to smolder and firefighters are taking action on these.
Light smoke was observable in the Valley this morning. Smoke may be seen from other high elevation locations, particularly Glacier Point and Sentinel Dome areas.
